My family loves two things when it comes to food, bacon and cheese. If I'd let them, they would eat those two things every day. Wile I can't afford bacon very often, (have you seen the price of nitrate free bacon?!) I do try to treat them with it several times a month. I recently surprised them with these bacon lover turkey burgers, and they really enjoyed them. The bacon added a deliciously smoky flavor to the burgers, and paired perfectly with the mild flavor of the turkey.
I rarely use ground beef anymore. Ground turkey has a lighter flavor then beef, which allows the rest of the flavors to shine through when I use it in place of beef in recipes. These burgers couldn't be easier to make. Just cook up some bacon until crisp, crumble it up and mix with ground turkey, seasonings, and Worcestershire sauce, shape into patties and fry. Top with your choice of cheese, we like provolone, and serve with your favorite toppings. BBQ sauce and Dijon mustard are great condiments to serve them with too.
Bacon Lover Turkey Burgers
4 slices bacon
1 pound ground turkey
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
4 slices Swiss or Provolone cheese
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add bacon and cook until crisp. Transfer bacon to a paper towel lined plate and set aside. Drain all but 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease from the pan.
Once bacon is cooled, crumble it into a large bowl, along with the ground turkey, seasonings, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until well combined.
Divide mixture into four equal portions, and form into burgers.
Heat skillet with reserved bacon grease over medium heat. Add the patties and fry until well done, about 5 - 6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F.
Serve with your choice of toppings as is, or on buns.
